The protagonist of the installation by The Corporation artist duo (János Borsos and Erik Mátrai) is an important yet invisible part of the building you are in: the space under the huge arch, which provides space for the large windows that had to be permanently darkened when the former market hall was converted into a museum. In the middle of this space, which lost its original function but still occupies a prominent position, the artists installed a structure fitted with a special cone, which transforms the point-like laser light that illuminates it into a light-plane, scanning the space around it.
The light simultaneously scans the surface of the arch and cuts out details of space from the vast space. The meeting of the robust structure’s movement adapted to the given space and the precise laser with the elusive smoke enveloping the space creates a situation that appears precise and random at the same time, and which, balancing between the duality of being seen and hiding creates a constantly morphing new element in space out of immaterial light and smoke.
