Light installation
Does the work of art change as the viewer moves in front of it, or is it the viewer who is transformed by the burning glow of the sodium lamp?
The world-renowned artist’s work on display here is a technically sophisticated light installation based on a mirrored bowl resembling a solar collector. In the centre of this reflective bowl, the artist has mounted a low-pressure sodium lamp, which emits an intense monochromatic yellow light. The key to the dynamic visual effect of the installation lies in the two dichromatic glass discs placed in front of the bulb. The discs interact with the monochromatic light source and the viewer’s perspective in a fascinating way, as their perceived colour changes depending on the viewer’s position and movement. The juxtaposition of the intense single-frequency light of the sodium lamp and the colour-changing properties of the dichromatic glass creates a fascinating visual experience in which the installation appears as an eye, as the sun, or even as a glittering jewel, depending on the viewer’s perspective. This combination of elements not only creates subtle shifts in colour and moiré effects but also reflects the environment and the viewer, blurring the line between the observer and the observed.
