NONE COLLECTIVE: J3RR1, 2018
Programmed torture machine
J3RR1 is an ordinary machine in the form of a vast grid of lights flickering, blinking and nearly fading to black, but not quite. The circuit boards and wiring are exposed at the back, setting each other off like a nonstop synaptic crackle. It could be regarded as a model of the human nervous system but in fact the machine is in a constant state of stress-testing, monitoring itself quite pointlessly without knowing what its task really is. Just like during a medical examination, the basic vital parameters (CPU, RAM, disk) of J3RR1 are constantly monitored and connected to a device that translates them into sound and light impulses. Machines are customarily thought of as cold and algid but when standing before J3RR1 we can feel the heat and energy of the halogen lamps that warm them up and hear the sound generated by the 25 solenoids that hit the aluminium sheets the machine is composed of, highlighting the clarity of a command that cannot be ignored.
