Can light alone evoke the complex atmosphere of contemplating the ocean?
The meditative, immersive installation of NONOTAK, a duo founded by visual artist Noemi Schipfer as well as light and sound artist Takami Nakamoto, attempts to do just that. OCEAN is based on the use of indirect light, pulsating hidden in the minimalist ’landscape’ composed of horizontal lines. The softness of indirect light and the slow, oscillating movement create the illusion of a water surface and evoke the rhythmic pulsations of the rippling ocean, the tranquillity of perpetual change and endless uniformity. The changing lights reminiscent of sunlight glistening on the waves or soft moonlight reflected off the surface of still water, transform the space and invite visitors to immerse themselves in contemplating the fluid transformation of light.
