What connects the self-organising processes of nature and modern technology?
Phase=Order is a kinetic light installation in which 96 identical panels move, are reflected and self-organise to create an abstract space made up of shadows and lights. The installation is based on research into the behaviour and self-organisational processes of animals moving in large crowds, flocks or swarms, and translates these natural behavioural motifs into artificial patterns. While much of the research in this field focuses on the behavioural rules of these systems, Phase=Order emphasises the audiovisual beauty of such phenomena and the organic choreography based on swarm behaviour. Using simple and individual behaviours, the modular system creates complex group dynamics, which appears in wave-like patterns and synchronised forms.
